Federal Polytechnic Nekede is one of the best polytechnics in Nigeria that offers quality education to students on various disciplines. Federal Polytechnic, Nekede: Overview

The Polytechnic which is situated in Nekede started at Government Technical College, Owerri in 1978 as College of Technology by the Imo State government. The federal government took over the institution on 7 March 1993 which resulted to a change of the polytechnic’s name to “The Federal Polytechnic, Nekede”.

Federal Polytechnic, Nekede is located in Imo State in the southeastern part of Nigeria. They offer National Diploma and Higher National Diploma courses at the various undergraduate levels.

The polytechnic has five faculties which are classified into: Engineering and Technology, Industrial and Applied Science, Business Management Technology, Humanities and Social Science and faculty of Environmental Development Technology. The school also has various departments that offer Diploma programmes in the courses they have.

The Federal Polytechnic, Nekede has its courses fully accredited to offer diploma programmes. These programmes aren’t only technologically based, but range from sciences, arts to othe engineering and technology inclined courses.

The general requirement of the Polytechnic into any of the departments in the undergraduate programmes is that applicants must apply through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) body and must meet the school’s cut off mark. This will be added by meeting the minimum 5 credit O’Level required by the department of interest in not more than two sittings.

4 BANKING AND FINANCE Applicants must have five credit passes in Mathematics and any two of Geography, Commerce, Principle of Accounts/Accounting and Economics is the O’level entry requirements for intending candidates. English Language, Economics, Mathematics and Commerce.
5 BUILDING TECHNOLOGY AND SURVEYING/ GEO-INFOMATICS Requirements for these courses are five credit passes which includes Mathematics and any of English Language, Technical Drawing, Physics, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Biology, Computer Studies, Economics & Arts. English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
6 BUSINESS ADMINSTRATION AND MANAGEMENT Five credit passes in Mathematics and any two of Geography, Commerce, Principle of Accounts/Accounting and Economics is the O’level entry requirements for intending candidates. The JAMB UTME subject combination for these courses are English Language, Economics, Mathematics and Commerce.
7 CHEMICAL ENGINEERING Five credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other subject from either Agricultural Science, Biology, Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics, Geography, Economics, Dying & Bleaching/Leather Goods Manufacturing. Mathematics, English, Physics and Chemistry.
8 CHEMISTRY Five credit passes including English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and any other one from Biology, Agricultural Science, Computer Studies, Cosmetology or Dying & Bleaching English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics or Biology.
9 CIVIL ENGINEERING A five credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other subject from either Agricultural Science, Biology, Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics and Geography. Mathematics, English, Physics and Chemistry.
10 COMPUTER SCIENCE Five credit passes including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and any other two subjects from Computer Studies, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science or Data processing/GSM Maintenance. English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry/Biology or Agricultural Science.

15 FISHERIES Intending Candidates must posses credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Agricultural Science and any other from Biology, Geography, Computer Studies, Physics and Aquaculture. 16 LIBRARY SCIENCE Applicants seeking admission into the department of Library Science in the Polytechnic must have at least five credit passes in Mathematics and any two of Literature in English, Geography, Commerce, English language and Economics will be accepted. 17 MARKETING Applicants must have five credit passes in Mathematics and any two of Geography, Commerce, Marketing, Principle of Accounts/Accounting and Economics is the O’level entry requirements for intending candidates. English Language, Economics, Mathematics and Commerce.
18 MARINE ENGINEERING Five credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other subject from either Agricultural Science or Biology, Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics, Geography and Economics. Mathematics, English, Physics and Chemistry.
19 MASS COMMUNICATION Candidates seeking for admission must have five credit passes in Mathematics and any two of Geography, Commerce, English language, Principle of Accounts/Accounting and Economics is the O’level entry requirements. English Language, Literature in English, Economics and Commerce.
20 MATHEMATICS Requires a five credit passes including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and any other two subjects from Computer Studies, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science or Data processing. English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry/Biology or Agricultural Science.
