Highlights Of Provisions Of An International Constitution

The scope of this article allow us to delve very well into the provisions of international constitution by the United Nations in brief.

The United Nations’ Charter was signed in March 1945 by 51 members. The charter has the following contents:

Preamble

“We the United Nations Organisation, solemnly but collectively this day agree to provide peace and security to mankind on global level. And especially to save the succeeding generations from the scourge of war which twice in our lite time has brought untold hardship to us”. Against this background we have agreed to present this constitutions.

Article I: Establishment

1. The General Assembly do by the charter of the UN establish an organisation to be known as the United Nations Organisation (U.N.O)

2. The organisation shall be a global body consisting of European countries, American; African, Middle East, Latin America, Asia and the Far East.

Article II: Purpose

1. The organisation shall have the following:

a. To promote the Unity, Peace and Security of the world i.e. save succeeding generations from the scourge of war.

b. To re-affirm faith in fundamental human rights, the dignity of man, equal rights of men and women, equal rights of-states etc.

Article IV: Membership

Each independent sovereign nation of the world irrespective of the geographical location shall be entitled to become a member of the organization.

Article V: Rights and Duties of Member States

All members shall enjoy equal rights and duties for the survival of the global body.

Article VII: Institutions

The organisation’s constitution recognized majorly six principal organs which are: General Assembly, Security Council, Economic and Social Council, Trusteeship Council, international Court of Justice and the Secretariat.

Other agencies are also mentioned in the UN charter. These includes the World Health Organisation (WHO), the United Nations Educational Scientific and cultural Organisations (UNESCO), the international Labour Organisation (lLO), International Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and others.
