Tope Alabi is a popular Yoruba female gospel artiste in Nigeria that has made a name for herself through her brand of music. Since the release of her first album “Ore ti o common” in 2001, Tope has set a standard that other singers of her kind try to emulate.
Also known as Agbo Jesu, Tope Alabi was born on 27th September, 1970 in Lagos. Although she hails from Ogun state, her parents Pa Joseph Akinyele Obayomi and Madam Agnes Kehinde Obayomi brought her up in a Christian home as the only daughter in the family.
Tope had her secondary education at Oba Akinyele Memorial High School in Ibadan during which she obtained her West Africa School Certificate (WAEC) in 1986. She then studied Mass Communication at Ibadan Polytechnic and had her HND in 1990.
Tope Alabi had shown interest in music and drama from her childhood days that she joined “Jesters International” (Jacob, Papilolo & Aderupoko) group at Ibadan. It was where she had her first experience and training in music and drama.
She has had many working experiences among which are: worked as a correspondent with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Ibadan and also in Centre-spread Advertising Limited, Lagos. In 1994, Patricia Temitope Alabi joined the Alade Aromire Theartre group. It was here she her talent as an actress and gifted singer shone.
Since then, Tope Alabi has been involved in so many film productions especially in the Nigerian Yoruba Movie Industry, she has also written numerous songs and has about 14 albums to her credit till date, she also has deep knowledge of stage drama and is considered by many as the best female gospel musician of Yoruba descent.
In fact, Tope Alabi receives numerous invitations by different, producers and directors in the Yoruba movie industry to perform sound tracks for many movies. She has in her collection about 350 soundtracks to her credit, which she had composed for various Yoruba movies.
