Building material prices are set based on a host of factors. They include current exchange rate, demand of such product, quality, brand and even market location.

The quality of the product

It is expected that product quality would be a determinant in the price of building materials available in the country. High quality products would be more expensive than low quality ones. The only disadvantage is that most sellers dish out fake or low quality products and sell them at high prices which is really unfair.

I won’t forget buying a Chinese made kitchen sink just because it costs N15,000 than the US-made quality kitchen sink that costs N45,000. Although they look alike, you could tell the difference in terms of their quality. You couldn’t blame me as I was working on a tight budget.

Brand of the product

Using the cement price above, you can see that Dangote cement costs more than other cement brand. This boils down to preference. I normally go for Dangote cement because its the best due to its high quality grade.

Market Location

Market location is one factor that contributes to the cost of building materials in the country. If these materials are sold at a lesser prices in the Northern part of the country, then it would be more expensive in the west especially in Lagos. You just have to be aware that location is key.
