This is a comprehensive list of all Federal Polytechnics that are accredited in the country. These federal colleges are some of the best tertiary institutions in the country, that is why it is needful to let the reader know about them. Also, note that Polytechnics offer both Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) at undergraduate levels.

Polytechnics in Nigeria do more of practicals than universities when you compare their teaching curriculum. These academic institutions offer various courses which inturn imparts useful knowledge that can aid students in life. The difference between Nigerian universities and federal polytechnics is in the manner that lecturers teach students.

While universities do more of theory, courses offered in Nigerian polytechnics are mostly more of practicals. Another difference exist in their tuition fee. It is known that both state and federal polytechnics in Nigeria school fees are more affordable than universities in the country. This should not deter applicants or students in choosing any as both offer standard qualitative education.

It is important to note that these federal schools have been fully approved by the National Board for Technical Education, (NBTE) and from our findings, there are 21 federal accredited Polytechnics in Nigeria. Although most students would prefer going to the university, admission into a polytechnic is more easier and that’s why it’s no surprise to find students in their numbers entering into these institutions.

1. Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Ebonyi

This academic institution was established in 1979 and it is located in Unwana-Afikpo in Ebonyi State. Enrolling in this school as a fresher student, there are neccessary requirements to be met like cut-off from JAMB depending on the course of study, WAEC requirements, etc.

2. Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo

Auchi Polytechnic is another top federal Polytechnic in the country that admits up to 8000 students annually. It has been ranked one of the best academic institutions where students can attend in Nigeria and also one of the most equipped.

3. Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti

Federal polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti is one of the top 10 ranked polytechnics in the country with the best lecturers who offer quality education. This school was at first a College of Technology, it was in 1979 when it was upgraded to an accredited polytechnic.

In terms of students enrolling in the school, the poly has admitted over 9,000 students into various departments within its campus. 4. Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi

Recently, Fedpoly Bauchi got NBTE accreditation for 53 courses to add to the already existing courses of study available at the school. The Rector was positive in speech when he added over 19 additional academic programmes at ND and HND levels for students who are interested to enter Fedpoly and study their dream course.

5. Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger

The Federal Polytechnic Bida was fomally a college of technology when it was established in 1977 before it assumed full status as a good northern poly to attend in Nigeria in 1979.

8. Federal Polytechnic, Idah, Kogi

Established in 1979, the Federal Polytechnic, Idah was among the 10 Polytechnics created by the Nigerian Military Government and has been dully approved to function since then. The school started with 220 students and 11 pioneer academic staff.

9. Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun

The Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, Ogun state is a citadel of learning that was founded in March 25, 1979. This academic institution have faculties that train students is various disciplines. Faculties such as Engineering, Communication and Information Technology, Environmental Studies, Management Studies and Pure Sciences are just a few accredited faculties in this school.

10. Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Zamfara

This school was established under the administration of former president Shehu Shagari. This school is one of the best in Northern Nigeria, admitting more than 4,000 students in various departments and faculties. The Federal Polytechnic, Namoda is currently located in Zamfara state.

11. Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, Adamawa

The Federal Polytechnic, Mubi was created to advance free education in the north-eastern part of Nigeria where education is lacking. Located in Mubi, Adamawa State, this school has what it takes to be among the best federal polytechnic in Northern Nigeria.

12. Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa

Kwara polytechnic is another Nigerian tertiary institution located in Kwara state. Founded in 1992, the polytechnic offers accredited courses in both National Diploma and Higher National Diploma at undergraduate levels.
