Courses Offered in Federal University Otuoke (FUOTUOKE, 2024)

The courses offered at Federal University Otuoke in Bayelsa State are accredited. FUOTUOKE is one of nine newest Federal Universities in Nigeria, which was established by the administration of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan in March 2011 and approved by the NUC.

The Federal University Otuoke is situated 21 kilometres South of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State Capital and it sits on an expanse of 200 hectares (494 acres) in the Ijaw town of Otuoke. Otuoke is the hometown of Nigeria’s former President, Goodluck Jonathan.

The University took off with two Faculties: The Faculty of Humanities/ Social Sciences which had two Departments and six programmes, and the Faculty of Sciences which had three Departments and six programs.

In March 2014, two new Faculties (Engineering/Technology and Business Management Sciences) were added to FUOTUOKE, with a Graduate School put in place to offer postgraduate degrees to students who seek postgraduate studies.

The Federal University Otuoke aspires to promote world-class and cutting-edge research in Energy & Environmental Science, Engineering and Technology; Marine Science, Engineering and Technology; Human & Social Dynamics; as well as Business Management & Entrepreneurial Studies.

The varsity’s research focus is on oil and gas studies, energy and environment, marine and wetland studies, human dynamics and conflict resolution, entrepreneurship which will guide their applied research and collaborative efforts as a tertiary academy geared towards the socio-economic development of the Niger Delta and of Nigeria as a whole.

To take academics to the next level, the school has employed highly qualified and experienced academic and non-academic staff to create and nurture a citadel of learning, teaching, research, and community service so as to be a leading light in tertiary education in the country.

FUOTUOKE also uses the best international practices to deploy modern communications technology in and out of their classrooms, and it is suffused with ICT tools. Aside this, the courses offered at FUOTUOKE are accredited.

The school has a fully functional ICT laboratory with about 200 Computers connected to the wireless access in most parts of the campus, with fiber-optics, satellite and radio links within and across the campus.

Classrooms and laboratories at the Federal University Otuoke are well-appointed and even expanding, to enable teaching, learning and research in the most conducive environment. In no time, this new school shall become one of the best in the country.
