Overview of Jigawa state
The then Federal Military Government under General Ibrahim Babangida created Jigawa state on Tuesday, March 27, 1991, along with other nine states. The state was carved out from  Kano state to stand on it own. In respect to land area, Jigawa covers about 22,410sqKm. It is bordered on the west by Kano, on the east by Bauchi and Yobe states and on the North by Katsina state, Yobe state and the Republic of Niger.
The people of Jigawa state are mostly Fulanis, as it is mainly populated by the Hausas, Fulanis, Mangawa, Badawa and Ngizimawa tribes. The state is a core Islamic state as about 98.9% of the population are Muslims, while the remaining 1.1% minority are Christians.
List of Local Government Areas and Towns in Jigawa State
There are twenty-seven (27) Local Government Areas in Jigawa state. The following are towns that are situated in each of these areas;
Dutse Local Government Area
Dutse LGA is the most developed Local Government Area in Jigawa state. This is due to it being the state capital. Notable urban areas in the area are: Dutse, Duru, Dundubus, Jigwar Tsada, Kudia, Karnaya, Limawa, Madobi, Chamo, Abaya and Sakwaya.
Kazaure Local Government Area
Kazaure LGA is a renown emirate in Jigawa state. It has an administrative headquarters in Kazaure town. Other towns in the area include: Daba, Dabaza, Dandi, Gada, Kanti, Maradawa, Sabaru, Unguwar, Yamma and Ba’auzini.
Auyo Local Government Area
Auyo LGA is a Local Government Area in Jigawa state. The area has the following towns: Auyo, Ayama, Ayan, Gamasarka, Gatafa, Kafur, Tsidir, Auyakayi, Unik and Gamafoi.
Babura Local Government Area
Babura LGA has an headquarter in town of Babura. Other notable towns in the area include: Batali, Dorawa, Kanya, Gasakoh, Kyambo, Takwasa, lnsharuwa and Kazunzumi.
Birni Kudu Local Government Area
Birni Kudu LGA is a Local Government Area in the state. There are notable towns like Birni Kudu, Kangire, Kantoga, Kiyako, Kwangwara, Lafia, Sundimina, Surko, Unguwan’ya, Wurno and Yalwan Damai in the area.
Birniwa Local Government Area
Birniwa LGA in Jigawa state is headquartered in the town of Birniwa, as towns like Batu, Brimiwa, Diginsa, Fagi, Kachallani, Karanka, Kazura, Matamu, Nguwa, Machinamari and Dangwaleri also make up the area.
Buji Local Government Area

Gagarawa Local Government Area
Gagarawa Local Government Area has it LGA headquarters in Gagarawa town. There are many other prominent urban centres and districts which include: Gagarawa Gari Gagarawa, Tasha Garin, Chiroma Kare, Balatu, Madaka, Medu, Maiaduwa, Maikilili, Yalawa and Zarada.
Garki Local Government Area
Garki LGA is one of the Local Government Areas of Jigawa State. It has an headquarter situated in the town of Garki, a commercial area in the region. Buduru, Garki Doko, Gwarzon-Garki, Kanya, Kargo, Muku Rafin, Marke, Siyori and Kore towns are the prominent urban areas in the LGA.
Gumel Local Government Area
